What are the symptoms of a cataract?

A cataract is a progressive condition of the eye. As the cataract develops vision becomes more damaged and the symptoms of a cataract worsen. Cataract syptoms will be worse if cataracts develop in both eyes simultaneously.

Common symptoms of a cataract are:

  • Blurry vision
  • Fading in colours
  • Seeing a glare or a halo around lights (headlights, lamps, sunlight)
  • Poor night vision
  • Double vision
  • Changes in vision despite glasses or contact lenses.

Patients should consult an opthalmologist as soon as symptoms of an eyesight problem appear. Cataract removal is able to completely restore vision loss if the cataract is removed early.
