To diagnose a cataract opthalmologists perform a complete eye examination consisting of three eyesight tests:
- A chart test measures how well you see at various distances (visual acuity test)
- Dilated eye exam. Drops are placed in your eyes to dilate pupils and the opthalmologist or optician examines the inside of the eye.
- An instrument measures the pressure inside the eye (tonometry test)
