What is a Monofocal IOL?
A monofocal intraocular lens is the most common type of lens implanted during cataract eye surgery.
A monofocal lens implant provides improved vision after cataract surgery - however, unlike multifocal lenses, the vision is focused on far-sightedness, for seeing things at a distance such as for driving or watching a movie.
Monofocal intraocular lenses do not correct near vision for doing things up close such as seeing fine print or reading.
Patients who decide on monofocal lens implants will be dependent on glasses some or most of the time, in about 70% of cases.
