Is cataract surgery serious?

Cataract extraction surgery is performed on thousands of patients yearly and is a low-risk operation. Cataract removal is the only treatment to repair damage to eyesight caused by cataracts.

All eye surgeries have a risk of complications, however 95% of cataract patients find their vision is restored and even improved after surgery.

To prevent problems, if patients require cataract removal surgery in both eyes it is recommended that the cataract extractions are performed separately allowing one eye to heal before the second cataract is removed.
